At the restaurant I work at, we pack fortune cookies with the to-go orders. I decided to draw these ordinary, everyday objects I see every shift. When it came to the text on the cookies’ packaging, I wasn’t sure at first how I should represent that in the drawing. Then, I thought of writing song lyrics there instead of the words that were actually on the wrappers. Doing so, after all, would give the piece a more personal touch, even though I purposely made the text too small to be visible from far away. I made this when I was a junior, so the lyrics are from artists I played on repeat at the time, like Clairo, Frank Ocean, the 1975, and Culture Club.
