Aching Streets
By Naya Dukkipati, 19, Texas
The work is about language barriers/expectations I faced as an Indian American. The poem can be read three ways (the left side on its own, the right side on its own, and left to right). I decided to use the contrapuntal form to show the issues I endure for not speaking telugu (my family’s native language) as an Indian, an American, and at their intersection.
