Youth Be Heard

Writing/ Art Coaches and Mentors

Do you have a specialty in any form or writing or art?

We need them all.

Drawing? Painting? Sculpture? Poetry? Song lyrics? Long-form essay? Opinion pieces? Journalism? Short stories? Video creation? Meme or gif artist?

We want to cultivate the natural sparks of interest youth already have. And we need mentors as diverse as their interests. Research says it can make all the difference. Do you wish you had someone who could chat with you about your art form when you were a teen, but you didn’t have that access or support? We get to be the people that believe in youth because we each needed someone to believe in us.

A lot of great conversation happens along the way. This is about art in all its forms, and it’s about life. It’s about having goals and reaching them. It’s about having someone consistent who cares, and who can listen and help them take things to the next level.

We have high standards for mentors- qualifications include: being a good listener, empathetic, having the ability to provide wisdom and sound life advice in the midst of writing or art advice. And sometimes knowing that the best advice is no advice at all is best. A background check will be conducted. Mentors will need to be available to meet over the phone or via video call at least once a month. How often you meet is up to you and the youth you are paired with.
