You Tried to Kill God

By Maya Goldberg, 16

Congratulations,

thank you for killing God.

Bravo!

The rationales have won.

No more will we be subjected to the torment of illusion,

you have provided us the practical and physical.

Thank you for teaching me that I am all alone.

I appreciate your effort to rid me of community.

I’m grateful the book of my ancestors has been discontinued

as I become a consumer of the culture surrounding me.

Because of you, I had to figure out myself,

that I am not a pointless speck.

We’re all just chapters with ink written in blood,

but I intend to continue the story.

So thank you for trying to kill God,

Nice try!

My culture and beliefs will stay if you don’t mind.

My inspiration is from my experience with Judaism in my life. I am a rational person, and youtube videos and family members and teachers convinced me that religion is the opposite of rationality, but I don’t agree with that anymore.
