Thirty Years

By Olivia Data, 17

Medium: charcoal

I see a lot of stereotypes about older married couples squabbling constantly. There seems to be a commonly-held view that love will inevitably deteriorate over time, and I believe that this is not true. My drawing, Thirty Years, shows my grandparents’ hands after they renewed their vows on their thirtieth wedding anniversary. Their commitment to each other always reminds me that love is a choice, and it isn’t meant to simply fade away.
