Masks
By Grace Mapes, 16
Everyone wears a mask
We all put on a face
We’re so afraid they’ll see right through
See that something’s out of place
Everyone wears a mask
Because we don’t want others to know
What goes on underneath
The glow of of false halos
Everyone wears a mask
Just some we cannot see
But everyone has a disguise
Even you and me
I wrote this a few years ago and it was inspired by a quote from the book “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio. It’s a commentary on the facades we all put up and how we present ourselves to the rest of the world.
