translated tongues

By Joy Huang, 17

somewhere along the way,
we got lost in translation.

tongues that once spoke fluent
twisted and turned turbulent.

is it the ears that could no longer hear?
or the mouth that could no longer speak?

these limbs lay limp,
hanging feebly off the ledge.

sound of silence like siren sonus
as we close swan song.

This poem was inspired by the story of the Tower of Babel from the Bible (Genesis 11:1–9). I was very intrigued by how the Bible portrayed the origin of how the different languages came about, which led to the creation of this poem.
