Winds in the East

By Lovanna Belle Amé, 19, Colorado

Everything’s changing.

Even as I sit here, writing this,

I can feel it.

I know that whatever happens today can never be repeated tomorrow.

I know I will never be the same person as yesterday.

I know that life is moving on.

Even as we sit and laugh,

play games as familiar as our friendship,

I feel it.

We can all feel it, but some ignore it.

Those who don’t ignore, know that even as life stays the same

it can never repeat itself.

The familiar can never be forever.

My life feels like it is constantly shifting right now. Even “normal” things have an unfamiliar feel about them. It reminded me of this line from Mary Poppins that Burt says in the beginning of the movie: “Winds in the east, mist coming in, like somethin’ is brewin’ and bout to begin. Can’t put me finger on what lies in store, but I fear what’s to happen all happened before.”
