Dried Flora

During the height of the pandemic, producing art for me was very hard, particularly when it came to my photography. My favorite things to capture with my camera are landscapes and old buildings, but ever since quarantine I haven’t been able to travel and take pictures of the things that I love. So I decided to challenge myself by taking pictures of things in my home. I finally settled on a subject: dried flowers that were a few days old from my birthday. Rather than throw the flowers away I decided to immortalize them in my photography. These pictures helped me see the beauty of flowers in a whole new way. When we think of flowers we think of flowers that are fresh, dewy, and vibrant. However, as I was editing my pictures, the flowers reminded me of an old vintage photo and gave me a sense of warmth and almost nostalgia. In a time where things were uncertain and my creativity was blocked, this piece was comforting. As I enter a new phase in my life, going to college, I’m excited to see what’s next for my photography and what I create in the future.
