We Don’t Have to Measure Up

There’s so much comparison. So much competition. Why? Because we’re all afraid. And the only way we know how to not be afraid is to “measure up” to people around us.

There’s so much pressure. To fit in. To seem strong. To get good grades. To do well on the ACT. But it’s a constant game of staying on top… just to survive. Who can keep up that pace?

It will break us. We have to ignore it to survive. And people who spend more time looking inward, and try to understand themselves, make it. It doesn’t matter what your ACT score is. If you don’t know who you are and you don’t love yourself. You can have a high paying fancy job and be unhappy in your 50s.

Sure. We all want to acheive. But the pressure is unrealistic. There are so many paths to achieving a dream. And there’s so much more time than we think. Most of us will work for 40 years. What’s the rush?

While it feels like all of these things are impossible feats, the first and most important step of surviving and more specifically thriving, is learning how to love yourself and who you are through all of it. It has become a cliche at this point, but truly not caring what other people think of you, and doing what makes you love your life is so important.
