This piece is based on my experience with bipolar disorder, specifically the manic side. Personally, mania can involve overwhelming emotions that cause me to cry or laugh uncontrollably. Often, my emotional reaction while manic is a disproportionate response to the event itself. This self-portrait is a representation of these strong emotions experienced during a manic episode.
